It didn't matter that the warrant was years old, or that Smoke Jensen had been cleared of all charges. A Texas bounty hunter believed he could still collect $10,000 for killing Jensen, and he intended to do just that. But when he and his men came calling, Jensen was nowhere to be found. So they took the next best thing -- Smoke's woman -- left a ransom note, and headed for the Rocky Mountains.

Return Of The Mountain Man (The Last Mountain Man) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)"The Return of the Mountain Man" is the second of the Last Mountain Man series, and it is with this book that the Legend of Smoke Jensen really begins. William Johnstone is a Master storyteller and this book will keep you interested from start to finish as Smoke Jensen who seeks his revenge as Buck West for the murder of his first wife and child. This book is an excellent starting point to the tales of Smoke Jensen which will follow in other books in the series. As in all Johnstone a lesson can be learned if one reads deeply enough.... It will be left up to you the reader to find that message.

Heart Of The Mountain Man Review

(More customer reviews)once again Smoke is off to help a friend. This time its to help his friend monte recover his kidnapped wife. Once again mr johnstone starts out fine with his character but uses too many flash backs it seems like hes writing too much or something and had to have many fill in flashbacks. Since lamour died he has been one of my favortie writers but im starting to get away from his series books and going for his new character books.

The Last Mountain Man (G K Hall Large Print Book Series) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)"The Last Mountain Man" is the beginning of the Smoke Jensen story. Smoke is a raw naive kid, who learns fast, and won't take any crap from any outlaw murdering thief. If you like the Western genre you'll LOVE William W. Johnstone's "Mountain Man" series. Smoke Jensen is genuine.

Law of The Mountain Man (Mountain Man 5) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This particular series of books featuring Smoke Jensen have fiercly dedicated fans. I"m only a casual reader but I buy these books as gifts for a family friend who is serving a prison sentence. I am rating these based on his reviews. He tells me these are the perfect escape books for people who are either incarcerated or perhaps disabled or elderly. The action is fast-paced and the descriptions of the Western frontier are authentically detailed. He appreciates that WWJ often refers to historic events of interest and will try and tie the story in with those happenings. Reading this series and the Preacher Series by the same author has motivated him to ask for non-fiction books about the Frontier and the Old West.
There are currently 34 books in this series and the first 28 or so were written totally by WWJ. The later books were collaborations with his niece Jo Johnstone. WWJ himself passed away a few years ago in 2004 or 2006 depending on your source, and Jo has taken over most of the continuing series. However, readers didn't even realize the man had died until his publisher 'fessed up so I would assume that the current writer is keeping with the same tried and true formula that fans expect when they buy one of these books.
If you know somebody who could use a little escape to this time period, you really can't go wrong with these books. The only thing I would say is to be aware that his politics are on the conservative side. This doesn't figure much in the westerns but in his Post-apocalypse series ASHES, it's front and center. Many fans of Westerns have never gotten around to that series but I'm just puttin' it out there for you so you know.

Journey Of The Mountain Man (The Last Mountain Man, Book 6) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)A boy growing up, starting at the end of the Civil War. His father comes home after the war and they head west. They make friends with a famous mountain man who takes in the boy after his father dies. He teaches the boy everything to survive in the mountains. He becomes Smoke Jensen, a gunfighter by necessity and has many adventures. Marries and together begin ranching and fighting the badmen from Colorado to New York. Smoke fights for the helpless and his home. This is a series of books the start with "The Last Mountain". Also a short series about the mountain man, starting with "The First Mountain Man". Both series never get boring. In fact, they are hard to put down. The only western series I've enjoyed next to Louis Lamour's series "The Sackets".
