Betrayal of the Mountain Man (The Last Mountain Man, Book 34) Review

Betrayal of the Mountain Man (The Last Mountain Man, Book 34)

I am disappointed in this latest in the mountain man series. In all previous books Smoke and Sally had loads of money. Smoke had gold on the Sugarloaf and sally came from a rich banking family from the east , Sally was rich on her own. Yet this last book shows that they were about to loose the ranch over a debt of $ 2000. I should think the author would remember these details

They called him fastest gun alive, but Smoke Jensen is determined to stay on the right side of the law. That is, until he's jumped by six low-life robbers who steal his shirt - and his identity. Smoke's tried for robbery and murder, and sentenced to hang in morning. Someone's out to frame the Mountain Man...someone who's made a big mistake. Barely managing to escape on the morning of his hanging, Smoke's going after the desperados who've set him up. The gang thinks they have nothing to fear; they've already divided up the loot and gone their separate ways. But Smoke's going to hunt them down one by one. Because nobody frames the Mountain Man. Nobody who plans on staying alive, that is.

Portrait in Smoke/the Tooth and the Nail/2 Mysteries in 1 Book Review

Portrait in Smoke/the Tooth and the Nail/2 Mysteries in 1 Book
Average Reviews:

Both novels revolve around a single gimmick -- that one character is not what another character perceives him or her to be. In Portrait, the girl of the protagonist's dreams is a hard, irredeemable type looking out for number one. I don't want to give anything away, but in Tooth, again, the plot hinges on mistaken identity. Ballinger was competent, and the odd structure of Portrait (it's told on two different tracks, and as we watch the protagonist search we slowly learn what exactly he's searching for) manages to drum up some suspense, but both books, in the end, seem rather slick and contrived. In the best hard-boiled work one has the feeling, anyway, that one has encountered the truth, that one has learned something. That definitely isn't the case here. So this isn't a must-buy.

In Portrait in Smoke, a collection agent specializing in missing persons falls in love with the photograph of a missing woman, and a man hunts down his wife's killer in The Tooth and the Nail.

Smoke and Mirrors: Making the Transformation to Nonsmoker a Path of Spiritual and Personal Growth. Review

Smoke and Mirrors: Making the Transformation to Nonsmoker a Path of Spiritual and Personal Growth.

What a welcome change to find a self-help approach which encourages the reader to think for himself. The writers bring a body-mind-spirit perspective to the process of quitting a smoking habit. Starting from the premise that real and lasting change must be internally motivated, the book gently guides the reader through a process of self-examination. The non-judgmental tone is another plus. If the reader decides to quit smoking, great. If not, that's OK too; at least she has begun an enriching process of reflection, one that may ultimately lead to a stronger commitment down the road. This approach may not work for people who require more structure, but for it's got the potential to help many people who have been unsuccessful with other methods.

Mitzi's mother is trying desperately quit smoking, and her withdrawal symptons is driving the whole family crazy. But Mitzi has more to worry about than her Mom's mood swings. She's got to find a way to get Mike Humphrey, her mad crush, to beam his ultra-smile in her direction. And her best friend, Birdy, is too busy getting chummy with a popular girl named Roxy to help. So when Mitzi tells miake a huge lie about her mother's condtition just to get his attention, she has no one to blame but herself for the trouble that follows.
I really enjoyed this story, even though I have never had any similar problems. I can still relate to Mitzi though, by the way she tries to get boy's attention, yet I have never gotten in as much trouble as she does in this story !

Whiskers & Smoke: Flames are Catnip to a Deadly Arsonist on Edgemarsh Lake... (Dead Letter Mysteries) Review

Whiskers and Smoke: Flames are Catnip to a Deadly Arsonist on Edgemarsh Lake... (Dead Letter Mysteries)
Average Reviews:

Whiskers and Smoke that was originally published as "A Trail of Ashes" was renamed and added cover art to take advantage of the popularity of feline sleuths. To be sure, there is a cat, Errol, in the story, but he does not have a major part in moving the plot along like KoKo (The Cat Who... seriers) or Joe Gray and Dulcie (Shirley Rousseau Murphy). Once the reader overcomes his expectations concerning the role of the cat, the story becomes an interesting character study of an English family visiting New Hampshire. The companion book, Paws for Alarm, should be read second. Taken together they are an enjoyable study of an English family visiting America and an American family visiting England.

Smoke: Cigars and Men That Enjoy Them Review

Smoke: Cigars and Men That Enjoy Them

If you haven't had a chance to get this book, go buy it. Andrew McDiarmid does a wonderful job of grasping erotic mental imagery with heart squeezing love. I am sorry I didn't get a copy while I was at Smokeout.
The story that grabbed me the most was the nine chapters of "The Hunt". I am neither submissive nor dominate, but the love story behind it made me very emotional. Loving someone is not about how good a person looks or how much leather they wear. It's about who they are and what they are about. It's not about that quick rush of pleasure or 'getting off'. It's about getting to know someone for their hidden joys and things that make them cry. It's about touching ones heart strings in a way that their shear presence is undeniable. In the story, a leather daddy called Maximillian sees a young furry leather pup named Marcus on a subway train. Maximillian is called a brethren. Marcus is a someone who enjoys everything entailed in being a leather submissive. Maximillian is an older, in light terms, cigar smoking leather muscle daddy bear. Marcus is a fur covered 'pup' who does boot black at a bar in the Castro. Marcus is searching for that one daddy to take him as his own. I am not going to give away the meaning of what a 'Brethren' is because you really need to read the story and Andrew's book.
The story has 9 parts to it and, besides the obvious erotic content, has an underlying love story that I think we all want in our lives. I was in tears by the end of the story because I realized that the men I have dated never really took the time to get to know the real me. All they wanted to know was the sexual person that I am. They never got to know the true me. Maximillian courted, in terms, Marcus through a period of time. They both taught each other things only a difference in age could do. Marcus introduced Maximillian to new music and art, while Maximillian introduced Marcus to how he wanted to be serviced and he true life as a Brethren. Only till all truths came out could the two be bonded forever.
We all strive for love in our lives, but taking the time to do it is key. Being intimate with that one person is ok, but get to know them for who they are. You may be surprised.
Go buy the book and read the chapters of "The Hunt" and you will understand what I am talking about.
