Women under the Influence Review

Book was very 'DRY' in the reading. It is informative, but the way that it was written was a bit too much. Author uses long vague descriptions before you finally understand what they are trying to say. Like using 500 words when 10 words would have explained the same thing in a better way.

This book is jam packed with information that all smokers need to know. 2 months ago, after reading this book, I finally stopped a 1 1/2 pack a day, 23 year old addiction with NO weight gain and haven't thought twice about it since. You'll never look at a cigarette or yourself in the same way after this book. It's not a scare tactic book, either. It's just good psychology and it REALLY works!

Turbulent Journey: A mother's perspective on Mental Illness and Addiction Review

Turbulent Journey: A mother's perspective on Mental Illness and Addiction

Turbulent Journey is is one of those must read books - informative, spiritual in it's message and heart-warming in the love and care required to support someone suffering from mental illness and/or addiction. Being part of generation Y, I have numerous friends who have mental illness and addictive problems, so this book opened my mind by providing me with a more homely insight into their ongoing problems and the family support required. This behind closed doors viewpoint is something other books rarely offer. I love the ending with the focus being on the misconceptions of mental health and the lack of community awareness. I highly recommend purchase of this book and believe you will be better for reading it.

Complete Idiot's Guide to Quitting Smoking Review

Complete Idiot's Guide to Quitting Smoking

I've tried everything to quit smoking, hypnosis, patches, acupuncture, cold turkey (at least 100 times), and nothing has worked for more than 3 months. I went to the library one day, and this book caught my eye, thank goodness. It is a wealth of information for a smoker wanting desperately to quit. From this book, I have developed my "3 W" plan (Water,Walk, and Web). And for me, it's working. Question: When is the website going to be ready? (drandmrsquit.com)

Stop Smoking in One Hour: Play the CD... Just Once... and Never Smoke Again Review

Stop Smoking in One Hour: Play the CD... Just Once... and Never Smoke Again

I was extremely skeptical. Have smoked strong European cigarettes (you know, so I can get European cancer but look good doing it) for 25 years. I had quit for 4 years during that time with a patch, but started back up a few years ago smoking more than ever, 2+ packs per day. We are vacationing soon at a place where there is no smoking, so I got this book to try and prepare myself. I had no intention of quitting the day I did. I read the book thinking I would listen to the CD another time, but went ahead and listened to it and have not picked up a cigarette since. I have re-listened to the CD 3 times just to make sure, plus it is very relaxing. I have the patch ready to put on, but I have not needed it yet. I sit in my office on the computer with a cup of coffee and remarkably no cigarette ! Give this a try if you are thinking about quiting....I hope you will be as pleasantly surprised as I am that it does work. She does a great job of letting you know about hypnosis, so if you are unfamiliar or a little afraid, she answers all of those questions and puts you at ease.

I'M TOO STRESSED TO STOP. I'LL GAIN WEIGHT IF I QUIT. I'VE TRIED AND FAILED TOO MANY TIMES TO COUNT. Why are you still smoking, even though you want to quit? Based on twenty years of research and hands-on work with countless smokers in his clinics at Columbia University and New York Presbyterian Hospital, Dr. Daniel F. Seidman understands that people smoke -- and quit -- for different reasons and what works for one smoker might not work for another. • Are you a Situational Smoker? Monitoring your reactions in different situations is a step toward permanently losing interest in cigarettes. • Are you a Worried-about-Weight Smoker? Properly using treatments like Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) can help you quit and get healthy in all aspects of your life. • Are you an Emotion-Triggered Smoker? Scheduling your smoking breaks and sticking to a rigid "smoking schedule" helps break the link between stressful situations and craving cigarettes. In a comprehensive, 30-day program, Dr. Seidman explains how to retrain your brain, take advantage of all the tools at your disposal, and end the month smoke-free and feeling stronger than ever!
