(More customer reviews)I have the fifth edition, 1971, of this 20-page publication, English Smocks with directions for making them. In it Ms Armes presents a brief history of English smocks, who wore them, their colors, materials and decoration. Detailed directions for making them follows, accompanied by 12 black and white photographs of actual smocks. Included, at least in my edition of the book, are 13 folded paper inserts detailing various embroidery designs identified by their county of origin and type of worker or occasion, eg Stafford & Shropshire Gardener and Warwick Shepherd Wedding Smock.
