I'm raising a beautiful teenage niece who got in a relationship with an older boy. Because of my concerns about the relationship, a friend recommended Sharon's book. The book was very helpful for me to communicate more clearly with my niece and to understand her and teen relationships better. I bought extra copies for friends of mine - that is how highly I think of this book. I also work with college students and have found the information in this book insightful for discussions with them. I recommend this book for those raising teenagers, those who work with teenagers, teenagers and young adults.

"But Mom, it's not the same as when you were a teenager…."Your daughter is right. Never before have teenage girls been so inundated with the idea that sex is a natural part of teenage relationships. This is a book of hope and empowerment. The good news is that you can use the challenges your daughter faces today as catalysts to help her develop a sacred view of sex and of herself.Your daughter will make critical decisions during her adolescence and those decisions will have lifelong consequences. But you, as a mother, can have enormous influence over your daughter if you are prepared."Mom, Sex Is NO Big Deal!" will arm you with information and strategies to help your daughter arrive at a place of wholeness as she makes decisions about how she will behave sexually during the most vulnerable period of her life.

Jim Dent's Junction Boys was one of the greatest sports books I ever read, so I couldn't wait for his next one. It's a different kind of story, but this book is wonderful too. Dent knows how to make his characters come alive, from the great coach, Bud Wilkinson, to all those great players, and there were quite a few during the Streak. No, Wilkinson isn't portrayed as a saint here, because he wasn't--he was a human being, and that's how Dent shows him, warts and all. I'd rather read the truth, and if John Herman Bell says "this book is as true as true can be" (that's what he told the Daily Oklahoman), that's good enough for me. The best part of the book is getting to know all those great players, and reading about all those great games they played--and there were some great games. Also, getting behind the scenes is really cool, to see how the players and the coaches prepared (or didn't). There are a lot of funny stories, too. All in all, a great follow-up to the great Junction Boys.

Seeing the Unseen Review

Seeing the Unseen

I really enjoyed this book. Very logical and thoughtful with scripture to back up major points. The NIV translation of the Bible uses the terms rulers, authorities, and powers of this dark world to represent spiritual forces of evil. Joe Beam goes into great detail to define these terms and brings you into the great drama that took place on the cross. There was a great battle that took place in the history of creation. God chose to be a humble child who grew up to be a carpenter to end the war and defeat sin, death, and Satan. There is one chapter that is a melodrama in which Joe Beam takes us right to the cross where Satan confronts his Creator. Satan thinks he won by killing his King. Only to realize that his pride and arrogance helped save mankind from God's wrath. Seeing the Unseen takes you into the cold war that is still battling on until the day Christ returns. My faith was strengthened and yours might be to if you decide to read this book.

Smokescreens Review

This book is invaluable in exposing the Roman Catholic Church.
Jack Chick warns from the beginning of this book to BEWARE of the Roman Catholic Church. Jack insists that Rome has historically called a "cease fire" to bring ecumenism just before she strikes with the hot iron of persecution. Anyone who knows the history of the Christian Church can readily recall the horrors that the Roman Catholic Whore has brought upon Christ's church. Pick up Martyr's Mirror or Foxe's Book of Martyrs for detailed accounts of this brutality.
Roman Catholicism is demonic in origin and the largest deception on the earth today. Smokescreens helps the reader navigate the lies of the Pontiff and see it for what it is - a part of Mystery Babylon and the Great Whore. This book also details the compromise of men like Billy Graham who have tried to appease Rome.
As a missionary to Serbia, I know firsthand the results of the Roman Catholic brutality against the Serbs during World War II. This book is also a great resource for the persecution brought against the Orthodox Serbs and how thousands were slaughtered. The wars of Yugoslavia in the 1990's were given fuel for the ethnic hatreds because of what the Roman Catholic priests and nuns did during WWII.
The Roman Catholic Church is the biggest cult on earth today. Get this book, read it and take a stand against Rome while there is still time. Anyone who allies with Rome has always in the end been destroyed at the altar of Paganism.

Highlights the Dangers of the Ecumenical Movement. Many Christians are joining the ecumenical movement, thinking God has ordained it to bring all Christians into unity. But this book reveals that the ecumenical movement is nothing more than a smokescreen, hiding the Vatican's real intent, to stamp out religious freedom and rule the world.

The God Who Smokes: Scandalous Meditations on Faith Review

The God Who Smokes: Scandalous Meditations on Faith

Wow. What a great book! A friend passed this along to me because he knew I was deeply concerned about the teachings of Rob Bell, Brian McLaren and the like. I was hoping for a cogent, compelling, biblical debunking of the emergent movement. What I got was so much more. Stoner has managed to write a book that first and foremost introduces you to the sheer glory of God. With powerful, poetic, prophetic language he helps you to see the terrifying, infinitely loving, worship-worthy reality of the God who has revealed himself in Scripture. This is not only the perfect prescription for the man-centered errors of the emergent church, it was unexpectedly sweet medicine for the subtle cynicism of my own heart. I found myself not only agreeing but worshiping. While Stoner is clearly sympathetic to many of the questions and concerns of the emergent church, he shows that the tragedy of our day, Emergent and Evangelical alike, is that our God and our gospel is simply too small. With compelling, colorful, poetic language he calls us back to a truly God-glorifying, gospel-saturated worldview and lifestyle.
This is great writing. It feels like you are sitting on the back porch having an immensely enjoyable conversation with a really smart, funny, godly man. His story of getting caught by his strict missionary parents in a dusty Chilean movie theatre made me laugh out loud. His description of Jesus quieting the waters ("Calm down! Now!") made me see my Lord with new eyes as one who insisted on walking this earth "as if he owned it".
This is a book for everyone simply because we all need to be challenged by the reality of God as he is - a God who smokes.

Emergent theology is raising some of the most provocative and divisive questions in the church today. Filled with humorous insights and challenging ideas, The God Who Smokes imagines a twenty-first-century church where hope hangs with holiness, passion sits next to purity, and compassion can relate to character.
