The characters in this book seem real, as if we all might have one or two of them in our lives! Jaize touches on real subjects; love, abuse, family issues, friendship, HIV..This book will take you through some emotions ranging from happy, sad, hopeful, anxious, mad, sexy, and romantic!
At times while reading the book, I felt like I was in Chicago for the summer!
I look forward to reading more from Jaize Brown's creative mind!

Quit and Stay Quit - A Personal Program to Stop Smoking: Quit & Stay Quit Nicotine Cessation Program Review

Quit and Stay Quit - A Personal Program to Stop Smoking: Quit and Stay Quit Nicotine Cessation Program
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a relapsed ex-smoker, but now have beginning health issues due to smoking, so I headed to my local bookstore for renewed motivation. I had read a great little book that spurred my initial quit two years ago, but couldn't remember the name. That book wasn't on the shelves, so I decided on "Quit & Stay Quit" based on the back cover info, primarily:

"Before you try to quit -- before you even decide if quitting is for you -- invest some time in 'Quit & Stay Quit'."

By page 44, I knew this was the not the book I needed. On page 7, there is a note:

"In a journal, (page 21) add a reason yourself -- one of the reasons you want to keep smoking."

There was no mention to begin a journal in the introductory pages, but no big deal. However, Page 21 gives no information whatsoever about a journal. It's a totally different chapter entitled "Smoking Is An Addiction."

Up to page 44, there were a couple sentences that stated "Now that you have quit (unless you are still smoking), ...", but the statement on page 44 ended my reading:

"Right now, you are a smoker who is not smoking. (If you are smoking while reading this, you must be highly [italicized] addicted.)"

HUH? What happened to: "Before you try to quit -- before you even decide if quitting is for you ..." There are still 230 pages to read!!

The author dedicates the book to a fellow doc that died from smoking, but it's clear the author never smoked in his life. I know I'm only speaking from review of the first 44 pages, but he is simply reusing the same tips & tricks: write down why you want to smoke, write down why you want to quit, record each cigarette of the day, etc.

Nothing new here, in addition to confusing and a little deceptive. Save your money.

Cassius Cheong's Positively Quit Manual: The Thinking Person's Guide to Stop Smoking Review

Cassius Cheong's Positively Quit Manual: The Thinking Person's Guide to Stop Smoking
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Cassius Cheong's The Positively Quit Manual is a guide to quitting smoking for people who need a fresh, new perspective. I found the advice to be extremely relevant to beginning the behavior modification that it requires to finally quit.
As a current smoker, I have tried the following methods over the past 35 years:
1.Cold Turkey - Failed 5 or 6 times. I still have ex-friends that don't speak.
2.Hypnosis - I paid $100 for a short nap and a cassette tape that I listened to one time and fell asleep again.
3.Zyban - Or as my kids called it, "Dad the smoking zombie".
4.Nicotine Patch - Didn't faze my addiction one bit. It did give me a rash that I enjoyed.
5.Nicotine Gum - Smoking and chewing gum became my new addiction. I had to wean myself off the gum with more cigarettes.
6.Chantix - 3 rounds of complete and utter failure. I will admit it lessened the urge and I did cut down but in the end, it didn't work. I could have bought a good used car for what I spent on this.
7.Copenhagen Snuff - I felt sure this would work. Similar to the gum, I became addicted to both snuff and cigarettes. Finally gave up the snuff after I had to have a golf ball size tumor surgically removed from under my jaw.
So you see, this is not my first rodeo.
I believe the strongest part of this book is the way the author took the reasons we cite for not being able to give up smoking and/or the pleasant attributes and completely destroyed them with logic and reasoning. I am the worlds worst at trying to rationalize my weakness. This book gave an authoritive and compelling new perceptive on these so-called rationalizations. As the book states, the cigarettes are causing the problems that we pretend they are fixing. Almost makes you mad at yourself for not looking at it from this angle.
This book is just full of great advice. I am going to read it again and then set my quit date (while not telling anyone - again, great advice).
I hope you find this review helpful

This book was a good book.Even though I hate reading I still read it.This book is mainly about a boy named William Thomas Emerson. His parents die and he runs away to Boston. He gets a family at a motel and becomes a messager to find things out about the war.The only problem I thought with this book was they didn't tell about the war. This book told about what happened in the beginning, but at the end when everyone chose to leave Boston from the war Will stayed and that was it.This book had good titles for things,Interesting hook, and had a nice change of seasons and time.Overall I'd give this book an 8/10.

Immortal: Love Stories With Bite Review

Immortal: Love Stories With Bite
Average Reviews:

Cynthia Leitich Smith's Haunted Love: This story wasn't exactly bad but it wasn't good either, it was "blah." It was ok for a short story, nothing special though.
Kristen Cast's Amber Smoke: Ugh, where to start? Just like the House of Night series she tries WAY too hard to sound teen friendly, like a cool hip teenager. It is ridiculously over the top, no teen actually talks like that. It is cheesy and irritating, Kristin really needs to tone it down. Being in touch with teens is one thing but sounding like that sad middle-aged mom trying to fit in with her teen daughter's friends is another. As for the story itself, awful. The author took every overdone, cliché story idea and threw it into one story. She also put way too much random info into the story and it got to the point where you were like "wtf?! why did that happen, how did that happen" every few sentences. It was the type of storyline that needed to be a novel so that everything could be explained, instead its a short story that doesn't make sense and doesn't flow smoothly at all. It wasn't much of a short story at all, just random nonsense thrown together with no meaning at all.
Rachel Caine's Dead Man Stalking:
Excellent! I haven't read the Morganville series but now I want to. The author's tone was great, the story was interesting, plus clear and solid and it made sense. It was what a short story should be, a whole story in just a few pages, not too much but not too little either.
Tanith Lee's Table Manners:
Very well written. A new interesting look on vampires. I enjoyed it.
Nancy Holder's Changed:
Another excellent, well written story. Showing a different kind of love and a different kind of vampire world. Instead of the dark brooding romantic vampires, you get the evil apocalyptic ones. A great read.
Richelle Mead's Blue Moon:
I really liked this one. I almost always love vampire stories where the vampires are known to the world.
Claudia Gray's Free:
I loved this one. It was a great story about a strong woman doing what she needs to do to make herself happy. It was also the only story that wasn't set in the present which was a nice change of pace from the other stories.

Stop Smoking for the Last Time: You Can Unlock the Power to Quit Struggle-Free Review

Stop Smoking for the Last Time: You Can Unlock the Power to Quit Struggle-Free
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just finished reading George Wissing's new book, Stop Smoking for the Last Time. WOW! What a breath of fresh air. As a physician and surgeon, I had never heard of anything like this before. It truly shed new light on a common problem that I as a doctor have to deal with on a daily basis. I'm not a smoker, but reading this book gave me so much insight into the mind of the smoker, and even more reason to be kind, patient, and understanding of their true "addiction", which Mr. Wissing states is not due to nicotine. He makes some convincing arguments that it's not so much a chemical dependency that's keeping you addicted, but more of an emotional one that leads to a Pavlovian "habit." His concept of smoking as a form of deep breathing and meditation was what really gave me an "ah-ha" moment for me.
Even if you don't smoke, or if you have other "habits" such as an eating problem, this book's basic concepts can be applied to almost any of life's problem areas. I've already started implementing some of his recommendations into my life, and I'm already beginning to feel better.

Regulating Tobacco Review

Regulating Tobacco
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This collection of essays is practical and wide-ranging. The editors have assembled essays from academics who study law, politics, public health, and economics. The information is reliable and current. The charts are easy to understand. The writing is almost always clear, but arguments and analyses will challenge newcomers and provoke old hands.
Essays concern the regulation of tobacco by means of international and domestic politics, taxes, marketing, and litigation, as well as efforts to reduce injuries to smokers and availability to youths. Every essay complements the whole. Each chapter features at least some history to summarize the performance of policies to date. The index will expedite use of the book as for building bibliographies, as will the abundant references and footnotes.
I award only four stars because some of the chapters go too far and some not far enough. Dr. Jack Slade calls the marketing of tobacco "peculiar" despite the fact that the appeal of tobacco companies to freedom of choice is a position accepted by 75-80% of Americans, to the best of my information. Dr. Robert Kagan and his co-author conclude on page 32 that "On balance, contemporary U. S. tobacco policy seems to reflect American public opinion much more than it does the preference set of either the tobacco industry, public health activists, or antitobacco lawyers." Try writing that "duh!" conclusion in a term paper and see what grade you get when the teacher stops guffawing. Not only is that contention so obvious as to be risable, but it also misleads. Even if tobacco companies have not gotten all that they wanted, they have made billions by addicting young people to known carcinogens. Policy may long have reflected tobacco power far more than public health activism or litigation, ya think?
Still, this is a terrific resource.

The proliferation of lawsuits against the tobacco industry has had profound implications for American health policy, tort law, civil law, and welfare and social policy. Since the publication of Rabin and Sugarman's Smoking Policy, class action suits, FDA regulation, clean air legislation, health insurance reimbursement, and extensive advertising have brought tobacco to the forefront of national and public policy debates. This collection includes essays by eleven leading public health experts, economists, physicians, political scientists, and lawyers, whose activities encompass Congressional testimonies, Surgeon General's reports on youth smoking, and clinical trials for drugs for smoking cessation. They analyze specific strategies that have been used to influence tobacco use--including taxation, regulation of advertising and promotion, regulation of indoor smoking, control of youth access to cigarettes and other tobacco products, litigation, and subsidies of smoking cessation--and set them against the latest scientific findings about tobacco use and the changing cultural and political setting against which policy decisions are being made.In addition to Rabin and Sugarman, contributors include Frank Chaloupka, Peter Jacobson, Robert Kagan, Nancy Rigotti, John Slade, and Ken Warner.

I can't come up with the words to describe how bad this book is. It's completely full of typos, spelling errors and duplicate facts/phrases (on the same page even). Worst of all there are many errors in the answer sheets and practice tests so you never really know if you've studied the correct facts. I cannot imagine that anyone proofread this book before going to press.

Smokescreens Review

This book is invaluable in exposing the Roman Catholic Church.
Jack Chick warns from the beginning of this book to BEWARE of the Roman Catholic Church. Jack insists that Rome has historically called a "cease fire" to bring ecumenism just before she strikes with the hot iron of persecution. Anyone who knows the history of the Christian Church can readily recall the horrors that the Roman Catholic Whore has brought upon Christ's church. Pick up Martyr's Mirror or Foxe's Book of Martyrs for detailed accounts of this brutality.
Roman Catholicism is demonic in origin and the largest deception on the earth today. Smokescreens helps the reader navigate the lies of the Pontiff and see it for what it is - a part of Mystery Babylon and the Great Whore. This book also details the compromise of men like Billy Graham who have tried to appease Rome.
As a missionary to Serbia, I know firsthand the results of the Roman Catholic brutality against the Serbs during World War II. This book is also a great resource for the persecution brought against the Orthodox Serbs and how thousands were slaughtered. The wars of Yugoslavia in the 1990's were given fuel for the ethnic hatreds because of what the Roman Catholic priests and nuns did during WWII.
The Roman Catholic Church is the biggest cult on earth today. Get this book, read it and take a stand against Rome while there is still time. Anyone who allies with Rome has always in the end been destroyed at the altar of Paganism.

Highlights the Dangers of the Ecumenical Movement. Many Christians are joining the ecumenical movement, thinking God has ordained it to bring all Christians into unity. But this book reveals that the ecumenical movement is nothing more than a smokescreen, hiding the Vatican's real intent, to stamp out religious freedom and rule the world.

Living by the Word Review

Living by the Word

"Living by the Word: Selected Writings 1973-1987" is an excellent collection from prolific author Alice Walker. In this collection of essays and journal entries, Walker demonstrates the essential union of her political, spiritual, and artistic "selves."
Walker writes about many topics: animal rights, her daughter's smoking habit, her father, the problematic legacy of Joel Chandler Harris, pioneering African-American thinker Benjamin Banneker, vegetarianism, Reggae legend Bob Marley, her own 1983 trip to China, and more. Particularly fascinating are her thoughts on the controversies surrounding her great novel "The Color Purple."
Although the "New Age" vibe of much of the book may be too much for some readers, I found the book to be well-written and consistently interesting. Walker is a writer who has created a remarkable body of work, and "Living by the Word" is an excellent example of her passion and insight.

Five Odd Honors Review

Five Odd Honors
Average Reviews:

If you enjoyed the first two books in this series, you will undoubtably enjoy this one as well. The book rotates points of view between Brenda, Pearl Bright and Loyal Wind (the original horse exile). In the beginning, this constant switching felt jarring and interrupted the flow of the story. Once I had read more and remembered exactly who Loyal Wind was things seemed to move more smoothly.
While, Lindskold's writing style is very detailed and the ideas are interesting, I would prefer more action and less talking. The characters talk about what they're going to do extensively. Then talk about when the right time is to do it. Then they talk about what preparations need to be made and who will do it. At one point in the book, I was completely bored with one of the storylines which amounted to a lot of waiting around, talking, and using mah jong tiles to try and figure out who is causing problems for Pearl Bright.
Reaching The Lands Born from Smoke and Sacrifice seemed somewhat anticlimactic. Nothing much happens there until well into the book, but it's worth the wait. My favorite parts of the book are the ones centered on Brenda and her learning more about her maternal heritage and what comes along with it. I hope the next installment progresses her relationship with Flying Claw one way or the other.
Note for Kindle buyers: There are many occurrences of words/names being broken in two, or multiple words being combined into one. This tends to disrupt the reading experience, and will hopefully be fixed soon.
