Having graduated from college with a degree in English, Alex still can't please her cynical father who feels she should have had a job before she even graduated.
Finally securing a job at a liquor store Alex thought that should at least please her father, yet he couldn't understand why Alex would want to work in such a place. After a bit of time Alex gets an interview with Miles Porter Cigarette Establishment. She had no clue what her job would be and wasn't even sure if she wanted to take it since she didn't smoke.
Her job would be working in the processing section, checking on moisture levels in tobacco. During the course of her early days in the job, Alex realized that everyone had their own agenda and maybe you couldn't trust anyone. The man she was seeing, Andre, had to go out of town on a family emergency and she later found out he had an infant son and new wife. She also realized that not everyone had her zeal for working and soon she found that many were out to get her.
Deciding that she didn't want to stay in processing forever, Alex applied for a promotion. Little did she know she had several things going against her; she was black, female and intelligent. In addition, in the manufacturing plant was the "good old boy" syndrome which she would soon encounter. Given all the stress she was going through, she wasn't really paying attention to details and had a terrible accident. As typical with many major companies, there was a cover up and an attempt to get rid of her. After a period of depression, anxiety and recovery, Alex decided she would not be treated like this and took the company on.
